Uma and Sofi reunion

I posted soooo long ago, I forgot I had a blog. By golly, what happened? Oh right, I got a job and friends! Living in Portland has been amazing, I absolutely love it. The weather has been beautiful, the friends I've made are cool, and I keep getting visitors from Durango. First, it was Jeni - thanks Jeni for visiting. Cosmo Jen surprised me with a visit. Then it was Darian, I made her go grail hunting with me. And now Shannon's visiting. Shannon's racing cyclocross this weekend.
Thanksgiving was fantastic. Darian, Jen, Abra, and myself went crabbing and to the beach. The beach is the reason I am writing and not taking pictures. Yes, the ocean won - my camera lost:( It was a lesson learned and won a few laughs, oh well. Oh, and we bought one crab to bring home with us!

Portland has tons of diversity and I like it! How often do you go to a bike party and meet someone who is a baton twirling, hula-hooping roller skater? Or a former professional clown who is racing cyclocross? No, neither one of these people were dressed up in their clown suits or wearing roller skates (even though they would still be accepted if they did). Bike junkies come in all shapes and sizes and it's really cool to be surrounded by this culture.
I'm heading to Salem this afternoon to do a night orienteering race and a pre-race potluck. I'm going to break myself from bringing chips and salsa and actually bake some cookies. Don't worry, I'm not going domestic on you all - cookie dough from a tube!!!!!

Once again, lots have happened since my last post ... such as ... I moved to Portland, Oregon! I just left behind a wonderful group of friends but I know they will always be there for me. Some have already made plans to visit. Others, I need to do some more persuading :) Maybe when the sun comes back out.

a lot of happenings have gone by since the last time i posted. such as a kendall mountain adventure with some friends: lani, kerry, jeni, mary jill, kristina?, kristy? some are doing the imogene run and used this hike/run as training. some of us (like me) chatted and ate raspberries :)

...and then cosmo jenn and i rode dry fork loop. it was jenn's first day on clipless pedals mtb'ing!

... and then darian and i hiked up la plata canyon and got rained on. doesn't darian look like she's sick? she should take more sick days :)

...and then darian and i did a trimble loop ride. darian just got back from racing the final race in the norba national series. how did she do, you ask??? first overall in the 2008 series for pro downhill!

got a chance to go hiking last weekend with kerry. we hiked up to the saddle of little giant from the cunningham gulch side. if anyone knows the silverton area, we chose to hike the more difficult side so we could have an easier drive. i don't think either one of us knew just how steep it was - i believe it was about 4,000 ft of elevation in about 3 miles - holy heifer! the hike got us up to amazing views, so worth the steep hike ... and the sunburn :0

after hiking, we did a little geocaching in howardsville, co. the geocache took us to the first burial in howardsville. the grave was in the woods and dated 1880. i would have taken pictures but the bugs were driving me crazy, so no photo documentation. however, we did chill in howardsville for a few minutes before heading to the booming town of silverton.

i had a wonderful day today hanging with friends. it started out with breakfast at carver's with jeni, jen, and danielle. and then jen and i went for a hike up pass trail which is on top of coal bank pass. we got up to the base of engineer mountain and then hiked a little bit north to catch more wild flowers. we didn't hike to the peak for many reasons but i'm sticking to the excuse that uma's afraid of heights. later in the day, i hiked up hog's back with some other friends. to finish the day off, darian and i bbq'd some brats - yummy :)

the weekend is here!

yes! the weekend is here and i'm looking forward to hanging out with friends. jen and danielle, from portland, are here having a little dp celebration with family and friends. i think they brought the rain! last weekend was a hoot hanging with jeni, matt, lyn, rita, and kasen in breckendridge. we all participated in the breckenridge 100 - racing, crewing, and entertaining (that would be kasen). thanks for the invite to be on the team, jeni - racing is becoming fun again :)

Part 2 of my Portland trip

if you really know me, then you know i have a thing for hotdogs. how can you resist a hotdog that looks this good? yummy, yummy!

just like durango (i think i've seen them on 3rd ave), portland has these rings along the streets so you can tie up your horse. i think i might have to steal this idea and do something like this in durango :)

danielle and i took a trip to hood river to do some mountain biking and this is what we found.

we did not do this trail, maybe next year!
and then we did a little hikey-hike in washington state. hamilton mountain.

so i began my portland photo album with the segway tour and i'm leaving you with this picture. no kidding, a rent a cop on a tricycle segway. we pretty much chased him down to take this photo. this dude was so proud to be licensed to drive this vehicle, you had to be happy for him! he said it could get up to 40mph but that would be suicidal. going 40 on that thing sounds like it would be a hoot :) there you have it!

i guess i was waiting to upload photos so i can be proud of my posts but oh-so-lame. anyways, here goes...

i had a wonderful trip to portland, oregon to visit my bestest friends and to dive deep into the cycling culture. loved it - every minute of it! even when it sprinkled on me. you become a wimp of the wetness when you live in the southwest - but i embraced it!

a segway tour! it was so odd that we were intrigued to take the tour ourselves yet our budget did not allow us to be so dorky.

danielle and i took a road trip around the city and ended up at the alpenrose dairy farm velodrome to watch some pretty cool track racing. this is a sport i have yet to try.

all new to me and feeling kinda nerdy about it! here i am writing about myself, would that be egoblogging? well, here goes...

just got back from a softball game and totally got worked over! i think there was a 20 point difference, ouch! didn't bother me too much but maybe because i wasn't out in the outfield running all over the place. atleast i still had fun, that's what matters to me.
